Happy New Year Friends!
We hope you’ve had a great start to 2020. We brought in the New Year working on much needed house projects, creating a new feel in our home. Even started on a cozy writing nook so all the doggos can lay in our bed while we write like the royalty they are.
So far Mr. Carver (the cat) has really been digging the new chair we thrift-ed and the plants.. but that's another story. We were able to find many items to update our home from second hand stores. We try in all aspects to be cautious of our carbon foot print- even when it comes to construction and redecorating at home and work. Sometimes this makes projects take longer, waiting for the right pieces to show up. Our advice is just to enjoy the process. We're still looking for another chair or storage ottoman to pair in this new cozy corner.
We aspire to work our way from the top to the bottom in our house. We live very minimal with items which means this process won't take us as long as it once would have. We have spent many years finding homes for things we no longer need. It's put us exactly where we need to be to get these projects done. This means soon, a kitchen update will happen and you can get a sneak peek into how we operate. Don’t you think It would be awesome to watch videos alongside the recipe? We think so!
Friends, we have big goals for 2020!

It’s almost time for the Iowa Farm Sanctuary Valentine’s Day Bake Sale. The volunteers at IFS are absolutely amazing- this will be their second year fundraising with vegan sweets and goodies at the NewBo City Market. We had such a great turnout last year and sold out in just a few short hours giving us hope to raise more this year for the sanctuary.

Our friends at Hercules Haven are hosting an upcoming soup supper at the Faith Lutheran Church Feb 21st from 6-8pm. Our corn chowder, beer bread, and butter will be joining the large spread that the folks at the haven have graciously set up. It isn’t just about the soup, stay for the desserts, animal movie trivia, and wonderful conversations with some amazing people. Stop by and enjoy all the soups you can handle. All donations go directly to the care of the animals. We will be hosting some really great events out at the Haven this year.
We always enjoy our time at the Haven!

All this event talk gets us so excited for the warm weather to approach! But until then, we will just keep warm food in our bellies. With snow finally making it’s way to our area this month and it actually feeling like winter, we decided to make something to warm you from the inside out. This is a dish we had rave reviews from a few caterings. For January we’re sharing our Corn Chowder- pressure cooker style. Don’t worry if you don’t have a pressure cooker, you can make this on the stove or in a slow cooker. The only change would be the cook time. This recipe is a go to for us when it’s cold outside. It’s easy to throw together, and it’s almost better as leftovers. The recipes for the delicious beer bread and vegan butter (pictured below) are not included in this post. We have to keep some mystery for our future cookbook!
Chop, toss right into the pan, cook, cool, and chow down! Save yourself some time and use a pressure cooker, or enjoy a nice slow cooked chowder on the stove top or crock pot.
Either way is delicious!
